Continuing on with our amazing assignment in New England...
This week our good friends Lindsay and Matt decided to come to New York for their own vacation and were kind enough to stay with us over the weekend to catch up and have some fun!
Jason and I met them in NYC on Friday night and our sole aim was to get into The Spotted Pig in the West Village. Both Lindsay and I have heard nothing but excellent things from this restaurant and knew that we might be in for a 2 hour wait!
We didn't care!
We were incredibly lucky and got in with only about an hour wait, which flew by and gave all of us a chance to catch up!
Lindsay and Matt are such a fun couple to be around for Jason and I. We have been looking forward to this weekend for weeks and knew we wouldn't be disappointed!
And dinner at The Spotted Pig just started everything off right!
One of the dishes they are known for are their deviled eggs which were egg-cellent!!
Sorry! Couldn't help myself!
So fun!
After a much needed rest (Lindsay and Matt took the red eye over!) we knew we wanted to go out to the Hampton's since they would be spending all week in the city. It was HOT this weekend... I'm talking triple digits, so it was good to take them out to Long Island where the sea breeze kept things a little cooler...
Saturday morning, bright and early we got on the ferry and were blessed with another beautiful day!
After navigating the summer weekend traffic, we made it to East Hampton where we stopped at another lobster shack for LUNCH!
This place was so appropriate for this weekend all done up in red, white and blue! It really got us in the mood for the upcoming 4th of July holiday! And the lobster roll was fantastic!
On our way back from the Lobster Roll, I wanted to stop at the Amagansett Farmers Market which is operated by Eli Zabar now. I was so excited to see Mr. Zabar himself inside working and was just too chicken to ask for a picture with him! Oh well... We did get some really great Challah bread though! Challah!
We then made our way to the beautiful Hamptons beach... Unfortunately we didn't bring our suits, but we could not have stayed long anyway since we didn't have one of the much coveted residence passes to park at the beach!
We enjoyed it anyway! Behind Lindsay and me was one of the many private clubs that were in Southampton. Can I be a member please?!
Oh yea, and we did some house hunting as well. Jason and I decided to put an offer on this one... It was a low ball offer but we are crossing our fingers!
We had enough time before getting back to the ferry to stop by Sag Harbor. It was incredibly beautiful and much more casual than South or East Hampton.
Throughout our day I kept seeing this cute flag fence slat hanging in all the homes and businesses. Every time I saw one I pointed it out to everyone in our party saying how much I wanted it! When I found it at the Sag Harbor Garden Center I knew it was meant to be! What a fun souvenier!
Now this was the most interesting part of our day... As we were walking back to the car to get to the ferry Matt runs up to me with more excitement that I had seen from him all day...
"Do you know who that is?!?!"
"That's Hank Greenberg! The infamous CEO of AIG!!"
huh?
Oh, this guy!
Matt is the ultimate businessman... and he informed us that Hank Greenberg to him is pretty much like Ina or Martha is to me!
No wonder he was so excited!
I was just impressed that he could recognize him from the streets of Sag Harbor!
After all the excitement we took our tired selves back to the ferry and watched the sunset as we crossed back over the sound.
Again, it was another wonderful day...
On Sunday we let ourselves sleep in a bit but then took the train into NYC to get some more sightseeing in.
Now that we had someone with us I could get a picture of Jason and I recreating the scene in Central Park in the movie One Fine Day!
Watch it, its great!
We made a quick stop for lunch at The Boathouse then decided to go to the Met
The artwork was of course beautiful but I think the neatest part was going to the roof of the Met with the beautiful views...
After getting our fill of the artistic sort we decided it was time to get our fill of the food and drink sort...
I had heard about a fun place in the East Village, so we took the subway downtown to get to this unassuming hot dog cafe...
The hot dogs were great...
But we were actually not here for hot dogs...
In the corner of the restaurant there was a phone booth...
I picked up the phone, spoke in hushed tones to a woman on the other end of the line...
And through a hidden door we made it into the coolest bar I had ever been in!
It was a speakeasy called PDT or
Please Don't Tell!
The drinks were amazing! Jason's is the one of the left which is a bacon infused bourbon with maple syrup. It was intense and he actually loved it!
Matt and Lindsay are something of cocktail connoisseurs so they were just having a great time sampling the menu and explaining to Jason and I (non cocktail connoisseurs) about the ins and outs of cocktails.
We tried over half of the drinks on their very selective menu and were loving life by the end!
This had to have been one of the coolest NYC experienced Jason and I have had to date...
And we were so excited to share it with Matt and Lindsay!
Our last stop before getting the train back to Connecticut was the Momofuku Milk Bar that I had heard about. I tried their famous Cereal Milk frozen yogurt, which tasted exactly like it sounds... like cereal milk (you know, the leftover milk after you finish a bowl of cereal?)
It was surprisingly excellent!
We were sad that the weekend was over and had to go back to real life and work the next day...
But I think we did a pretty good job with fitting as much fun stuff in one weekend as possible,
don't you?
Thanks for a fantastic weekend Lindsay and Matt!
